Discussion

This spit was a second removal of material from the northern part of area 12AD, cleaning back by trowel and brush the area which had previously been shovel-scraped (012AD00216). The material removed was generally a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3), although some variation was noted in the west. A number of further, smaller spits were needed to fully define the features.
